What is VoLTE, how do I enable it, and how does it work?

VoLTE stands for Voice-over-LTE. VoLTE allows you to make and receive calls using your phone's data, with your existing RedPocket phone number. VoLTE can be used with all VoLTE-capable phones, on all networks.

The 3G network shutdown

With the retirement of 3G networks, older phones that relied on CDMA or 3G can no longer make calls or use mobile data. Modern networks use 4G LTE, which is fast for data but wasn’t originally designed for voice. That’s why VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is essential: it allows phones to make high-quality voice calls over LTE while still delivering fast data. Without VoLTE, a device cannot fully replace a 3G phone, making VoLTE compatibility crucial for staying connected on today’s networks.

How do I set up VoLTE on my RedPocket account?

Once my account is updated, how do I use VoLTE?

Make sure to turn the VoLTE feature ON and then set your calling preferences. Steps vary depending on your device type.

On Android:

  1. Tap on your phone's Settings.

  2. Tap on Mobile Networks. This may also be called "Cellular" or "Internet".

  3. Look for VoLTE and enable it.

On iPhone:

  1. Tap on your phone's Settings.

  2. Then tap on Cellular.

  3. Then tap on Cellular Data Options.

  4. Under Cellular Data Options, you'll see exactly which networks your phone is capable of accessing.

Does VoLTE use my RedPocket voice minutes and/or LTE data?

VoLTE will deduct your minutes at the same rate as a regular calling, but will not deduct from your LTE data balance.

Is WiFi calling different from VoLTE?

WiFi calling allows you to make and receive calls, and text messages, using a WiFi network, with your existing RedPocket phone number. If you've got a phone, that has WiFi calling capabilities, then you may be able to take advantage of WiFi calling. Learn more about WiFi calling here.
