Will My Phone Work With RedPocket Mobile?

RedPocket Mobile SIM cards work with all GSM-unlocked, VoLTE-capable phones.

We offer both physical SIM cards, which are inserted into your phone, and eSIMs, which are downloaded to your device. Since eSIM is newer technology, your phone must be eSIM-compatible to use this option.

All RedPocket plans are 5G-capable. To experience 5G speeds, your device must support 5G, but if your phone isn’t 5G-compatible, don't worry! Your RedPocket plan will default to 4G LTE instead.

 
VoLTE and the 3G Network Shutdown

The nationwide 3G network was retired several years ago, making VoLTE (Voice over LTE) mandatory for calling. VoLTE is supported by most modern smartphones and allows voice calls to be made over the data network.

Phones that support 4G LTE or 5G (even if they previously supported 3G as well) will continue to work. However, devices that relied on 3G-only voice calling stopped working once 3G service was retired.

Is my phone VoLTE-capable?

Below is a list of common manufacturers and their VoLTE-capable devices. This list is not exhaustive—most modern smartphones support VoLTE.

  • Apple iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer

  • Samsung Galaxy S10 and newer

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and newer

  • Samsung Galaxy A series (2019 models and newer)

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold / Z Flip series

  • Google Pixel 3 and newer

  • Motorola Moto G series (2019 models and newer)

  • Motorola Moto Edge series

  • Motorola Moto One series (select models)

  • Xiaomi - Most 2019 and newer models with LTE support

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note series (Note 8 and newer)

  • POCO F and X series

  • Vivo - Most LTE models released 2019 and newer

  •  Vivo Y series and V series (select models)

  • Sony Xperia 1, 5, and 10 series

  • Sony Xperia models released 2019 and newer

  • Huawei (Limited compatibility in the U.S.) - Only select older LTE models may support VoLTE, depending on network approval. Newer Huawei devices are generally not supported on U.S. networks

  • BLU - Select LTE models released 2020 and newer

Will my phone get 5G?

  • Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer (5G versions)

  • Samsung Galaxy A13 5G and newer (in the A-series 5G lineup)

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip / Z Fold series (5G models)

  • Google Pixel 4a (5G) and newer

  • Motorola One 5G Ace and newer Moto G 5G / G Stylus 5G family models

  • Xiaomi Redmi 10 5G and newer 5G-labeled models (Note series & others)

  • POCO M7 Pro 5G and other POCO 5G models

  • Most Vivo 5G models released recently (e.g., mid-range & flagship 5G devices) — check model names ending in “5G”

  • Sony Xperia 1 II and newer Xperia 5G models (flagship & mid-range Xperia that mention 5G)

  • Huawei P40 series and newer 5G models (availability may vary by country)

  • Select BLU 5G models released in recent years — check BLU phones with “5G” in the model name (compatibility varies widely)

What devices will NOT work with RedPocket?

We accommodate many devices, but certain ones are exceptions. Specifically, the following are not supported:

  • Devices locked to Tracfone.
  • Devices branded by Boost/Virgin Mobile.
  • Devices reported as lost or stolen.
  • Devices flagged for fraud.
  • Devices currently under contract with another carrier.
  • Devices linked to accounts with outstanding payments to a carrier.
