Can I activate a device that does not use a SIM card?
First, are you sure your phone does not use a SIM?
There are two types of phones without a SIM card slot: eSIM-only devices and older CDMA phones.
-
Newer phones (released after 2019) are often eSIM-only and cannot use a physical SIM card. These devices are fully compatible with RedPocket Mobile. You can shop our eSIM plans at redpocket.com/plans.
-
Older phones (released before 2019) without a SIM slot are likely CDMA devices. Unfortunately, CDMA phones are not compatible with our service. However, we offer GSM-compatible flagship phones, including the latest iPhones. Visit redpocket.com/shop to browse our selection.
GSM vs. CDMA
-
GSM devices use modern SIM technology (physical SIM or eSIM) to store your phone number and plan details. This allows flexibility: you can move your SIM from one phone to another. GSM phones are compatible with RedPocket Mobile, using either a physical SIM or eSIM.
-
CDMA devices store your phone number and plan information directly on the phone, no SIM is involved. This means you cannot easily move your service to a new device without carrier assistance. CDMA technology has been discontinued along with the 3G network. Modern phones now use GSM technology, and RedPocket Mobile fully supports GSM phones with both physical SIMs and eSIMs.
