What is VoLTE, how do I enable it, and how does it work?

What is VoLTE?

VoLTE stands for Voice-over-LTE. VoLTE allows you to make and receive calls using your phone's data, with your existing Red Pocket Mobile phone number. You must have a VoLTE-compatible phone.

For the GSMT, GSMA, and CDMA networks, VoLTE can be used with all VoLTE-capable phones.

Please Note: The CDMAS network has shutdown. This includes 3G, 4G, and 5G devices. If you have a CDMAS phone, click here to learn more about the shutdown and what to expect.

How do I set up VoLTE on my Red Pocket account?

If you are using the GSMA or the GSMT network, no setup is required!  If you are using the CDMA network, contact our customer service team and request to have VoLTE enabled.

Chat with us using the LiveChat icon in the bottom right corner of the page, send us an email at support@redpocket.com, or call us at (712) 775-8777.

Once my account is updated, how do I use VoLTE?

Make sure to turn the VoLTE feature ON and then set your calling preferences. Steps vary depending on your device type.

Android Steps

Step 1: Tap on your phone's Settings application.
Step 2: Tap on Mobile Networks. This may also be called "Cellular" or "Internet".
Step 3: Look for VoLTE and enable it.

Step 1: Tap on your phone's Settings application.

Step 2: Then tap on Cellular.

Step 3: Then tap on Cellular Data Options.

Step 4: Under Cellular Data Options, you'll see exactly which networks your phone is capable of accessing.

    3G-only phones are losing connectivity

Phones that have only 3G compatibility will no longer receive a signal. Phones with both 3G and 4G compatibility may still have an internet connection, however, if your phone is 4G LTE but does not include VoLTE, you may find that you are unable to make and receive calls. Only a small number of very old devices are 4G LTE compatible without the VoLTE functionality.

    Visit redpocket.com/3G to learn more.

Does VoLTE use my Red Pocket voice minutes and/or LTE data?

VoLTE will deduct your minutes at the same rate as a regular calling, but will not deduct from your LTE data balance.

Is WiFi calling different from VoLTE?

WiFi calling allows you to make and receive calls, and text messages, using a WiFi network, with your existing Red Pocket phone number. If you've got a phone, that has WiFi calling capabilities, then you may be able to take advantage of WiFi calling. Learn more about WiFi calling here.
