Insert your SIM card into your phone

A SIM card is the small chip that connects your phone to your carrier's network. SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. Before you begin, turn your phone off. This protects both the card and your device.

Most phones accept a SIM in one of two ways:

  • Placing the SIM card on the SIM card tray that slides in and out of the phone

  • Removing the battery and putting the SIM in the SIM card slot that sits underneath it

Quick Note:

This article will help you insert your physical SIM card into your phone. If you have an eSIM click here for installation steps.

Before you start, check compatibility

Confirm your phone is GSM-unlocked, VoLTE-capable, and has a clean IMEI (not reported lost, stolen, or flagged). You can verify this using our IMEI tool at redpocket.com/plans. To learn more about device compatibility, read this

Placing the SIM card on the SIM tray

Look along the top, bottom, or sides of your phone for a small tray with a pinhole next to it. Insert the SIM ejector tool (or a paper clip) into the hole to pop the tray out. Place the SIM card into the tray, with the gold contacts facing down, then slide the tray back in until it clicks. Once inserted, power your phone back on.

Inserting the SIM underneath the battery

If there's no tray, remove the back cover and battery. Insert the SIM card into the slot, then replace the battery and cover. Once inserted, power your phone back on.

Configure APN (Access Point Name) settings

APN (Access Point Name) settings allow your phone to connect to the mobile network. In most cases, these are configured automatically. If you don't have an internet connection within 10 minutes of inserting the SIM, you may need to set them manually. Visit redpocket.com/configure for instructions.
