      Automatically delete short code text messages after 24 hours

      Newer iPhones and Android phones come with a feature that automatically deletes OTP or Short Code text messages for you, after 24 hours.  While this does not prevent incoming texts, it allows you to keep your text message inbox clean of spam, unneeded two-factor authentication codes, and/or marketing messages by deleting them for you. 

       

      How to enable this feature

      This feature is available on iPhones running iOS 17.0 or later, and on most Android devices.

      iPhones

      1. Tap on the Settings application. 
      2. Tap on Passwords.
      3. Tap on Password Options.
      4. Toggle on Clean Up Automatically.

      Google Pixels

      1. Launch the Messages application.
      2. Tap on your profile icon, in the top-right corner.
      3. Select Messages settings.
      4. Go into Message organization.
      5. Toggle on Auto-delete OTPS after 24 hrs.
