What is Lifeline?

Lifeline is an FCC program that helps make communications services more affordable for low-income consumers. Lifeline provides subscribers a discount on qualifying monthly telephone service from participating wireline or wireless providers, like RedPocket Mobile. 

With the Lifeline Program, eligible customers get a monthly discount on their wireless plan. Customers can select from one of the following RedPocket Mobile plans if they qualify:

Only California residents will be able to use the Lifeline program. Applications can be submitted at redpocket.com/assist.


 

Who Qualifies for the Lifeline Program: 

You'll qualify for the Lifeline program if you have a household income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or are enrolled in a qualifying government program:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • Head Start (only households meeting the income qualifying standard)
  • Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Tribal TANF)
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

You must use the service to remain eligible. You must be a California resident. 


 

How does the application process work?

The Lifeline application process is very easy:

  1. Visit the redpocket.com/assist page and select your state.
  2. Fill out the application. 
  3. Select the government program that qualifies you for the Lifeline program or enter your income. 
  4. National Verifier might contact you for additional information before approval, if needed. 
  5. Once approved, you'll receive an email notification.
  6. Once approved, the order is submitted and we ship your RedPocket Mobile SIM to the address entered on the application. 
  7. You'll receive an email once your SIM ships.
  8. Visit redpocket.com/activate to set up the new service, once the SIM card arrives. 


Note: If you've enrolled in the California LifeLine Unlimited Talk, Text & 20 GB High Speed Data Plan or California Lifeline Unlimited Talk, Text & 30 GB High Speed Data Plan, you'll need to set up a payment method to pay for your $1.00 or $11.oo monthly charge.
